Red Gallery joins forces with Electric Star Pubs to present
Last Days of Shoreditch
Red Gallery in conjunction with Electric Star Pubs will once again be hosting a summer street food market running from the end of May until the end of August, this iconic site has been hosting markets long before they became the height of cool! Entering their 6th year, they have grown organically from humble beginnings to a roadblocked celebration of food, music and art.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and the curators at Red, have just been given notice on the site, as their landlord has had permission granted for a luxury 5 star hotel to be built. They knew this day was coming and were always just the caretakers of the site, trying to make creative use of a space that would have otherwise have been left derelict.
They have therefore chosen to name this current incarnation of the market ‘Last Days of Shoreditch’ as it could be their final summer in this iconic site, in recognition of this, they have decided to bring some of the key influences from the area together. DJ’s, Artists and club nights will all be represented in what will be part market, part club and part gallery.
The creative team behind Red Gallery, are the founders of the original concept of street food, great drinks and DJ’s all under the night stars. Red Market was established back in 2011 when the car park adjacent to the Red Gallery was made available to the team on the premises that “You cannot run it as a car park”.
Red Gallery are the cultural guardians, creative hub, art gallery, music & event space on 1-3 Rivington Street. Besides providing this unique fully licensed outdoor venue, the team have also contributed to the cultural renaissance of East London by commissioning some of the leading street artists to curate the site. These include Ben Eine, Roa, Phlegm, L7 or Stik. They also preserved one of the last surviving Banksy’s which is on the site.
The art content and creativity of the Last Days Of Shoreditch residency at the Red Market will be co-curated by the Red Gallery team.
